Practical thermal history sensors (Referthermo)

Referthermo

The firing procedure in the ceramics manufacturing process is primarily controlled by monitoring temperature profiles, but the actual thermal history experienced by the fired body varies depending on the heat source, heat capacity, and other factors of the furnace.
The Referthermo sensor is a practical reference tool for which the composition of its ingredients, particle size, molding density, etc. have been rigorously controlled, and it shrinks with high repeatability in response to the actual thermal history it is subjected to during firing.
Users can grasp changes in firing conditions by firing the Referthermo sensor together with the product to be fired and then measuring the length after firing.

* For more information, please access the Referthermo Users’ Manual.

Referthermo Users’ Manual

Features

  • Through standardized quantification of firing conditions by use of the Referthermo sensor, users will be able to share comprehensive technical data and make comparative evaluations.
  • The sensors may be used continuously on a regular basis to discover any abnormalities in firing furnaces, statistical quality analysis, etc.

Applications

  • For firing management and statistical quality analysis of engineering ceramics, electric ceramics, and old ceramics such as pottery, etc.
How to Use

Place the Refertherm sensor at the observation point and fire, then cool the sensor to room temperature before measuring its length with a micrometer.
(Attention: Let the Refertherm sensor stand at room temperature for at least one hour before measurement.)

寸法
Referthermo index

Use the length measured above and the conversion table to determine the Referthermo index, which should serve as your control guide. The Referthermo index is not actual physical temperature but an indicator of the overall thermal history of the fired product.
The Referthermo index shown here is equivalent to the temperature settings for firing with rate of temperature increase of 200°C/hour, holding time of two hours, and rate of temperature decrease of 300°C/hour.

* Precautions for use
Using this sensor in a furnace in a vacuum or in a low oxygen partial pressure environment may cause some of its components to evaporate, resulting in contamination of your furnace.
